The Road: A Photographic Journey

Jill Johnson and Billy Stone
Opening Reception
Saturday, December 4, 2010
6 - 9 pm
Exhibition will be on display through January 7, 2010

Billy Stone describes his panoramic photographs as "encounters of inspiring scenes along the various highways and side roads on his cherished road trips to New Mexico," where he grew up.  Stone recorded panoramic photos primarily for his own enjoyment as well as the enjoyment of others.  Stone chose to present the panoramas with nonlinear edges and black surround.  "I embrace the notion that these scenes are being viewed through an opening in the fabric of space created magically by combining the properties of camera, computer and the photographer, me."  Stone uses digital photography software to seamlessly stitch multiple exposures together into a single, much larger photograph.

Jill Johnson, Fort Worth based freelance photographer, has included images from her series, Tru-Vue. "This series of images on the back roads of the West Texas Panhandle was captured on a Hasselblad using 120 film. It frames a fading Americana and offers a snapshot of the simple beauty in the barren horizons, deserted streets, and the minimal relics of the past" says Johnson. For more than a decade was is an award-winning photographer for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Her creative and artistic images made the book, Glamourpuss the Enchanting World of Kitty Wigs (now in its 4th printing) a smash success.

Artspace111 is introducing THE SALON, a space for emerging artists to display their work alongside the more established  Artspace111 artist. In conjunction with The Road, THE SALON is featuring photographer Alan Garcia.

Artspace111 Artist in the Media!

Point, Click, Paint by Gail Robinson
Check out the latest edition of Indulge page 66 highlights Artspace111 artist Nancy Lamb.

"I like the silky fabrics, the glint against a black background, the 'stars-out-at-night' sort of thing, " she says. But there is more to it than just the allure of sequins. It's when the veils ...of inhibition waft to the ground as the night progresses. She paints moments of social intercourse that can be as awkward as the more intimate kind. - Gail Robinson

Sarah Green does Jackass: The stars of the laugh-out-loud show and movies are the subjects of a Fort Worth artist’s digital paintings. - Jimmy Fowler

“Some people are drawn to landscapes and some to architectural work,
...but I’m fascinated by people’s faces,” Green said. “I love the
ravishing Hollywood photos by George Hurrell of women like Greta Garbo
and Carole Lombard. I also love intensely physical sports like hockey
and boxing –– my grandfather was a fighter –– so the Jackass boys are natural subjects for me.” (Fort Worth Weekly - Jimmy Fowler article).
